HŠK Zrinjski is pleased to confirm that Mateo Sušić is the reigning champions’ first signing of the summer transfer window.
The experienced 34-year-old defender returns to the club where he began his professional career, and with his quality and experience, he will undoubtedly strengthen the Nobles ahead of upcoming domestic and European challenges.
Sušić signed a contract today until 2027 and will once again wear the number 16 jersey for Zrinjski.

Mateo Sušić made his debut for Zrinjski in 2008 in a European match against Vaduz (3:0). After two seasons wearing the Nobles’ shirt, 56 official appearances, and a league title in 2009, he spent the past fifteen years abroad, where he won an impressive total of fourteen trophies.
Over the last three years, he played in Cyprus for the well-known APOEL, winning the league title in 2023. Before that, he spent four years with Moldovan side Sheriff and three with Romanian club CFR Cluj, claiming seven consecutive league titles.
Sušić left Zrinjski in 2010 for Istra, and after three years in the Croatian league, spent one season with Germany’s Energie Cottbus, followed by six months at Cluj, the club he would later return to four and a half years later.
He made his debut for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2016 and earned eleven caps, with his last appearance coming in September 2022.
